What I've Learned this Week on Substack
For us newbies who get a little pep in our step when we learn something. Talking photos and subscriber information.
Sharing with you what I’ve learned this week on Substack that gave me a little pep in my step. I went into Substack blindly as I do most things. I like to figure things out as I go. It seems the best way for me to learn and keeps things exciting.
Having a place to write has always been my main focus when I start new projects, so this was no different. I’ve had many websites, been on ConvertKit since 2017, I’m on the app called Notion, and I’ve also written on the Buy me a coffee app.
Each one were all basically the same to navigate. Some easier than others, but all figureoutable.
What I’ve learned this week on Substack:
The Photo icon has an ‘add stock photo’ button that leads to free online stock images that you can use on your posts. I’ve always just downloaded them from online to use. I never really paid attention to the other options offered when I clicked the photo icon on posts I’m creating. I was familiar with being able to use the free stock photos offered on my Wordpress sites, but it hadn’t dawned on me that it would also be offered here. lol Anyway, there’s also other options when you click on the photo icon that I should have explored before I got to my 48th post on here.
When you click on your subscribers list in your dashboard, you’ll see stars by some of the names. According to this Substack Course by Casey Botticello, “They indicate how actively the subscriber has used the newsletter in the last month. This includes email opens and web views. The more stars a subscriber has, the more engaged they are with the newsletter”.
Did you know that you can see how how many emails subscribers received, opened, and links clicked? It specifies which posts they’ve engaged with and when they signed up. You can view their profile on Substack, send a message to them, and see some other stats.
I experimented with going into some of my subscribers that had 5 stars on mine. Have you experimented with that? I gave them some love on their Substack as it had been awhile since I’ve seen some of them around.
Fascinating stuff! I typically do not pay much attention to stats or numbers, but this was just fascinating to me. I’m glad I did it, but not sure how often I will revisit doing that as it is a bit time-consuming.
Learning’s my favorite. Did you get anything out of what I’ve learned this week on Substack or did you already know this and I’m just late to the game? lol
What have you learned this week on Substack?
I just noticed that I could deep into a subscriber’s interaction to see what newsletters they have opened or interacted with—fascinating. And surely a great way to foster a relationship with my readers based on what they’ve read (or not read) so far.
